Preparing ‘As Built’ Long Sections: Sewer and Storm Water.
You have prepared a sewer and or storm water network in MM and PM, and issued for construction.
Very proud of you first design, you receive feedback from the on-site surveyor regarding the as built info. What do you do with it??
1.) ALWAYS instruct the surveyor to present his survey based on sound principles;
2.) He must use the same naming convention as per design.( sound stupid, I know!)
3.) If additional mh’s are required, use a suffix
4.) The points file should be presented in the format XYZCT, Z for IL, C for name and T for depth/cover level. Do not accept any info that is not consistent with the instruction to the surveyor.
5.) Load the points file into any text editor and confirm all the prerequisites are met. Remember, MM does allow some manipulation of the points ie swapping of codes and tags, adding constants to co-ordinates, to name a few. You can select points by a string for manipulation.
6.) Satisfied, load the points file up in MM, and add your Design strings file. Switch on codes, tags and elevations on plot param page of MM. You now have design strings and relevant as built points on screen. Satisfy yourself that a specific design line can now be updated to the as built info, as per the points file.
7.) The next function is under Gxt/Edit/update as built. MM uses this function to search for points in a certain radius; if there is a huge deviance in X and Y values, something is wrong, go back and check data. Do not hit OK! Remember, there is no undo for the strings menu. ( Save any amendments as you go along, should something go wrong, just reload the strings file! ) Select a string/ line and you will see the info on screen: the left shows info as per string, and the right the info as per the points file, plus the deviation in X,Y and Z. Choose which of the attributes to update, and hit OK. One line down, many to go.
8.) Strings that are saved, can be brought back into PM, and L/S can be printed.
9.) It takes some practice but once you have the knack, it goes pretty quick.
Points to remember:
A) Your points file MUST be in the format that MM can recognise to update the nodes of your design string
B) Spend some time with it, get it right. Don’t let 3000 MH’s become a nightmare!
C) Save your strings as you go along
D) The invert levels are the important ones
E) Pay particular attention to drop mh’s, you may have to finalise these in PM L/S screen
